Backyard chickens should have constant access to a dust box. It's a natural, non-polluting cleaner. A dust bath encourages
ruffling and preening. Both of these are necessary for healthy chickens. Ruffling dislodges dirt, dander, and feather flakes.

heavy-duty plastic tub with a seal tight lid makes an ideal box. It can be moved around easily, left open on sunny days, and closed
or moved into the coop during inclement weather. Be sure the box or tub is sturdy, as the ladies often perch on the sides waiting
for their turn. When baby chicks can venture outside they are mature enough for a dust bath.
