Cystorelin is indicated for the treatment of ovarian follicular cysts in dairy cattle. Ovarian cysts are non-ovulated follicles
with incomplete luteinization which result in nymphomania or irregular estrus. Historically, cystic ovaries have responded to an
exogenous source of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) such as human chorionic gonadotropin. Cystorelin initiates release of endogenous LH to
cause ovulation and luteinization. Cystorelin was the first-selling GnRH product approved by the FDA for treatment of cystic
ovaries in cattle. Cystorelin is labeled for use in combination with SYNCHSURE to synchronize estrous cycles to allow for
Fixed-Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI) in lactating dairy cows and beef cows. In a study, Cystorelin induced the highest peak
and highest average LH responses as well as the highest ovulatory response of 95% compared to Fertagyl® (gonadorelin) and
Factrel® (gonadorelin hydrochloride). Cystorelin has no milk withholding and no meat withdrawal. Once opened, cystorelin has a 6
months shelf life, and is stored at or below 77 deg F. Store at or below 25 deg C, protect from light. For use in reproductive
programs in cows and heifers.
